Meet Carmen Dusenberry, Pilates Instructor

My path to Pilates wasn't a straight line, and that's exactly what makes my approach to teaching different.

Before stepping onto the mat, I spent years as a biotech professional and published stem cell researcher, immersed in the science of how the body works at its most fundamental level. That background never left me. When I discovered Pilates in 2023, shortly after trading New York City's relentless pace for the quieter rhythms of the Hudson Valley, I didn't just find a fitness practice. I found a methodology that aligns movement with healing.

What drew me in was the precision. Pilates meets the body where it is, building strength, stability, and control without demanding more than a body can give. I completed continuing education focused on working with special populations, studying strategies for stabilizing and restoring function, which informs how I work with clients navigating chronic conditions or longstanding imbalances. Whether you're managing a health challenge or simply trying to move through the world with more ease, this work is for you.

At Twin Wolves Healing Arts, I'm honored to teach within a space committed to whole-person wellness. My classes blend mindful movement with presence and intention, because lasting change requires both precision and care.

When I'm not in the studio, I'm tending my Hudson Valley homestead alongside dogs, cats, and chickens, cooking with local ingredients, and spending as much time outdoors as possible.

I can't wait to move with you.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact, full-body exercise method focusing on core strength, flexibility, body awareness, and controlled movement. Originally developed by Joseph Pilates, it strengthens muscles while improving posture and balance, often using specialized equipment like a reformer or a mat. It is designed for all fitness levels to build strength, reduce stress, and aid rehabilitation.

These one-on-one sessions use a Reformer which is a specialized machine with a sliding carriage, springs, and pulleys. The springs can either provide resistance to build strength or assistance to help you achieve a larger range of motion.
